“My Universe”, a collaboration with South Korean K-pop boy band BTS, earned the band a number one debut on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Coldplay's second US chart-topper after 2008's " Viva la Vida", from their fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.Coldplay at the very end of a concert in December 2008. It was supported by two singles, “ Higher Power” in May of 2021 and “ My Universe” in September of 2021, and one promotional single, “Coloratura” in July. However, the closing track " Coloratura" received critical acclaim. The album received mixed reviews from critics, some of whom criticized the album's overtly pop-oriented style. The album was recorded from late 2019 – mid 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic and was produced by Swedish record producer-songwriter Max Martin. A sustainable world tour for 2022 was announced ahead of the album release.
